- Choose phone or video consultations for reviews where the practitioner offers them. Telehealth review fees are usually 10 to 15 percent below in person rates, and you save the travel and parking as well, which for a suburban clinic visit is realistically another $10 to $25 each time.
- Buy remedies from a dispensary of your own choosing where the practitioner allows it. Clinic dispensed remedies are frequently marked up relative to independent homeopathic pharmacies, and asking for the remedy name and potency in writing lets you price it elsewhere before committing.
- Do not budget on the assumption of a private health rebate. Since 1 April 2019 the Commonwealth removed homeopathy from the list of natural therapies eligible for private health insurance rebates, so almost every fund now pays nothing on it and you should plan for the full amount as an out of pocket expense.

How the consultation is structured
An initial homeopathy appointment is primarily an extended interview. The practitioner takes a long case history covering medical background, current medications, sleep, appetite, temperature preferences, mood and daily patterns, and typically records this in detail. That intake is why initial appointments are booked at 60 to 90 minutes and priced accordingly.
After the interview the practitioner selects a remedy, which is a highly diluted preparation supplied as small sugar pillules, drops or a liquid. Remedies are described by a name and a potency notation such as 30C or 200C. Follow up appointments are shorter, generally 20 to 40 minutes, and consist of a review conversation and often a change of remedy or potency.

Remedy supply costs
Remedy costs are modest relative to consultation fees but are frequently quoted separately. A single remedy vial commonly costs $15 to $30 at a homeopathic dispensary. A practitioner dispensed remedy from clinic stock is typically $25 to $45, and a posted remedy adds a dispensing fee plus tracked postage, usually $10 to $18, bringing a posted supply to roughly $40 to $60 all in.
Some practitioners include the first remedy in the initial consultation fee. Others itemise everything. When comparing two quoted prices, always confirm which model applies, because a $150 all inclusive initial can be cheaper than a $130 consultation that adds $45 of remedy at the counter.
Medicare and private health insurance
Homeopathy is not covered by Medicare. There is no Medicare Benefits Schedule item number for a homeopathy consultation, no rebate is payable, and a GP referral does not create one. Homeopathy is also not an eligible service under a GP Chronic Disease Management plan, which covers a defined list of allied health services such as physiotherapy, podiatry and dietetics.
Private health insurance has also largely withdrawn. Following a Commonwealth review of natural therapies, from 1 April 2019 the Australian Government removed homeopathy, along with several other named natural therapies, from the list of services eligible for the private health insurance rebate. In practical terms this means most Australian funds no longer pay extras benefits on homeopathy consultations, and consumers should assume the full fee is out of pocket unless their fund explicitly confirms otherwise in writing.
A small number of funds have historically offered non rebatable loyalty style benefits on some natural therapies. If your fund is one of them, ask for the benefit amount and annual limit in writing before you rely on it.
Package pricing and program length
Many practitioners quote programs rather than single appointments. A common structure is one initial consultation plus three follow ups over four to six months, priced as a bundle at $380 to $650. That works out slightly below the sum of individual appointment fees, generally a 10 to 15 percent saving.
Ask what happens if you stop partway through. Package terms vary, and some practitioners refund unused appointments at the pro rata casual rate while others treat the bundle as non refundable once started. Get the cancellation and refund terms in writing at the point of purchase, not later.
Practical questions to ask before booking
Because homeopathy is not a registered health profession under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, there is no AHPRA register to check and no protected title. Practitioners may hold qualifications from private colleges and may belong to voluntary associations. Ask directly what qualification the practitioner holds, how long they have practised and what association they belong to.
Ask whether the practitioner will communicate with your GP, and confirm that you should continue any prescribed medication unless your GP advises otherwise. Ask how many appointments they anticipate, what the total cost of that plan is, and what the fee is if you need an unscheduled short review between appointments.
Finally, confirm the cancellation window. A 24 to 48 hour notice requirement with a 50 percent or full fee charge is standard, and initial appointments carry the largest exposure because they are the most expensive booking in the sequence.
