Who we are

Going Rate (goingrate.com.au) provides free online cost calculators and builds branded calculators for Australian businesses. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What we collect

• Calculator inputs you enter (e.g. project size, options). These are used to produce your estimate and are not personally identifying on their own.
• Enquiry details you choose to submit, your name, email, phone and/or postcode, when you ask for an estimate or a callback.
• Basic usage data, anonymous counts of how often a calculator is loaded and completed, to improve the tools. We do not require cookies for this.

How we use it

To generate your estimate, to send you the information you requested, to pass your enquiry to the relevant business so they can follow up, and to maintain and improve our calculators.

When you request a quote on Going Rate

If you ask for a quote from a calculator on our site, we collect only what you give us (your name, a phone number and/or email, your postcode, and the details of the job) for one purpose: to connect you with a provider who can quote. We only ask for a contact detail you’re willing to share, and you can use every calculator without requesting a quote.

• If a verified provider already covers your area, we forward your request to them so they can contact you.
• If no provider covers your area yet, we hold your request and try to find a suitable local provider for you. We’ll let you know either way, using the email or phone number you gave us, and if we can’t find one we’ll tell you.

Health & patient calculators, no enquiry collection

Our health, medical, dental, fertility, cosmetic, wellness, aged-care and disability-related calculators are information only. They do not have a quote or enquiry form, and we do not collect or forward any patient details from them. You can use them freely, nothing you enter is sent to a business. (A business may advertise alongside these calculators, but that is a separate arrangement that involves none of your information.)

Sensitive enquiries (finance, children’s services, legal)

Some calculators relate to financial, children’s or legal services. Information about these can be sensitive information under the Privacy Act, so we handle it more carefully. We collect it only with your express consent, we share only a brief, non-identifying summary of your job with a provider first, and we release your contact details to them only once they confirm they can help. We never broadcast your details to multiple businesses.

When you submit an enquiry through a business’s calculator

Many calculators are embedded on a business’s own website (for example a builder or clinic). When you submit an enquiry there, your details are forwarded to that business so they can contact you about your request. That business is responsible for its own handling of your information once received. We act as the technical processor that delivers your enquiry to them.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with: (a) a verified local provider we connect you with for your area (or, for an embedded calculator, the business whose calculator you used), where you submitted an enquiry and consented; and (b) trusted service providers who help us operate (e.g. our email delivery provider), under confidentiality obligations. We don’t use your enquiry details for anything other than connecting you with a provider.

Storage & security

We use reputable cloud providers with access controls and encryption in transit, and take reasonable steps to protect your information. We keep your contact details only as long as needed to connect you with a provider. Once a request is matched or closed, we de-identify it, removing your name and contact details, and dormant records are deleted automatically.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@goingrate.com.au. You can decline to provide enquiry details and still use the calculators.
