- Combine the soil test with the contour and detail survey where you can. Some firms offer both, and even where they do not, coordinating the two visits and sharing the site set out saves time and often a modest amount of fee. More importantly it gets both documents to your designer at the same time, which avoids a design revision when the classification arrives late.
- Ask neighbours and the council whether nearby geotechnical data exists. Where reactive clay bites hardest
