Gutter Calculator
Work out how much guttering you need. Enter the total length of roof edge to be guttered, the calculator returns the number of standard gutter lengths (with waste) and an indicative cost.

How we estimate this
Guttering is sold in standard lengths (commonly around 4.9m). For a 40 lineal metre run you need roughly 9 to 10 lengths once you allow for overlaps and offcuts, plus downpipes, brackets, stop-ends and corners.

Understanding gutters in Australia
Guttering is sold in standard lengths (commonly around 4.9m). For a 40 lineal metre run you need roughly 9 to 10 lengths once you allow for overlaps and offcuts, plus downpipes, brackets, stop-ends and corners.
As a rough rule, allow one downpipe per 10 to 12 metres of gutter so the roof drains properly in heavy rain. The gutter profile and material (Colorbond, Zincalume, copper) change the price per length significantly.
Frequently asked questions
How many lengths of gutter do I need?
Divide your total roof-edge run by the gutter length (about 4.9m) and allow around 10% for overlaps and offcuts, so a 40m run needs roughly 9 to 10 lengths, plus downpipes and fittings.
How many downpipes do I need?
As a rough guide, one downpipe per 10 to 12 metres of gutter, more in high-rainfall areas, so the gutter drains properly in a downpour.
