Drone aerial mapping is priced largely by site size. The deliverables determine much of the value. Standard photogrammetry produces an orthomosaic map, a 3D point cloud, surface and terrain models, contours and stockpile or volume calculations, with typical accuracy of two-to-five centimetres horizontal and five-to-ten vertical when proper ground control is used. LiDAR is more accurate vertically (one-to-three centimetres) and, importantly, penetrates vegetation to capture true ground points beneath canopy.
The critical distinction is engineering-grade versus legal survey-grade output. A standard drone map is indicative and fine for monitoring, planning and volume tracking, but it is not a legal survey. For certified contours or boundaries you need ground control points placed and tied in, plus a registered or licensed surveyor to certify the result, which is a meaningful cost step up.
Paying for certification you don't need is the most common overspend here, and conversely commissioning a cheap "drone map" when you actually need certified data for a DA leaves you with unusable output.
